A challenge to the whole universe on the purity of character

The Twin Miracle (yamaka maha prathiharya) is described here not primarily as a supernatural display, but as a Buddha's post-enlightenment challenge to the entire universe on one specific point: purity of character (parishuddha charitaya). The claim being tested is whether anything in existence can match the completeness of a Buddha's purity.
The teaching describes the Maitreya Buddha as an entity built from honesty and purity at its foundation — qualities that are not add-ons to an otherwise ordinary character, but the very material the awakened mind is made of.
The teaching includes the well-known dialogue between Gautama Buddha and his son Rahula, in which the Buddha expresses his wish that all beings could see nirvana for themselves. The teaching closes on this note of universal aspiration — the declaration that even if the whole universe gathered together, it still could not match what has been established here.
